The audio chat and the audio-based social network app Clubhouse were previously available exclusively for iPhones and iPads with iOS and iPadOS and can now be tested for the first time on Android. The latest beta is first rolled out to a handful of testers.
Gradual rollout under Android
As the developers say in the official release notes of the app, more and more users should have the opportunity to try out the Clubhouse app on Android within the next few weeks.
- Better prompts to follow your club. When you host a room and people are enjoying it, they'll probably want to follow your club so that they can get notified when you host a new room. To make this easier, we've added a prompt that shows up when new people pop into your room and stick around for a few minutes. We hope this helps more people get connected, without hosts having to remind people. 🙂
- Android BETA testing beginning. Android is not yet live, but we started rolling a rough beta version out to a handful of friendly testers. If you hear someone saying they are using Clubhouse on the official Android app, please give them a warm welcome! We cannot wait to welcome more Android users to Clubhouse over the coming weeks. 🙂
- More plumbing for improved discovery, notification quality and abuse prevention. Like last week, we've added more plumbing to help make your follow/room/club suggestions and notifications better and better over the coming weeks and months. We've also added more tooling to help continuously improve trust & amp; safety.
- Improvements to VoiceOver accessibility support. We made it way easier to find out who is speaking for our VoiceOver users. Use the & quot; Magic Tap & quot; gesture (double-tap with two fingers) any time within the room and the system will announce who is currently speaking.
Clubhouse – Release Notes
Short hype and bad reputation
The clubhouse app, which has its first competitor with the voice chat service Reddit Talk, fell last increased by security gaps and data protection deficiencies. Security expert Thomas Jansen demonstrated how easily large amounts of data can be downloaded from the provider's servers, conversations can be recorded in high quality or users can be locked out. Already in January the consumer protection Clubhouse had issued a warning. In Germany, the hype about the clubhouse app that spilled over from the USA only lasted briefly and has now clearly flattened again.
Update 05/10/2021 07:51 AM
For users in the US, the app is available as a beta in the Google Play Store. Other countries from the English-speaking area are to follow shortly.
