Lewis Hamilton wins in Monaco

On worn-out tyres, the world champion is shaking to victory. For the first time this season, Sebastian Vettel prevents a Mercedes-double success. For his team-mate his first home Grand Prix and a disastrous ending.

In memory of Niki Lauda, Lewis Hamilton has won the formula 1 Thriller of Monte Carlo and his German championship Challenger Sebastian Vettel in second place referred to. In spite of the utmost care of his tyres Hamilton fought back in a thrilling final phase, all attacks of tracker Max Verstappen and dragged himself at the Grand Prix of Monaco to his 77. Career victory. In one of the most exciting races for many years in the Principality, the Dutchman fell back in his Red Bull due to a Five-second penalty, but behind Vettel and Valtteri Bottas in the second Mercedes.

“This is Niki”, radioed the Mercedes-Crew. “No one but you would have brought to pass.” Local hero Charles Leclerc was only the beginning of something: After a tactical wayward qualification of its full risk-catch-up race ended as a result of a collision with Nico Hulkenberg in the Renault ahead of time. In the sixth Grand Prix of the year, Mercedes missed the sixth double victory, Hamilton has extended his championship lead with third victory of the Season but Bottas even.

74/78 Gasly will also get a 5-second penalty, because he was in the pit lane over the solid yellow line was.

73/78 Gasly once again drives the fastest lap. So far, Hamilton verse can still fall behind. What happened to the last five rounds?

70/78 Verstappen has on the radio the Go to get to “attack” and “Mode 7” to use. This has, of course, noticed even Mercedes. Verstappen tried it now, but Hamilton makes sent.

67/78 Gasly, the new tyres have taken, driving the fastest lap.

66/78 Meanwhile, Bottas drove the fastest lap and puts pressure on Vettel. Who gets the Extra point for the fastest lap?

64/78 On the radio is Hamilton from his Team, aware of the fact that he was on Position four back would fall, if he now has new tires, get would.

61/78 “I know not how you imagine it. We need a miracle” – Hamilton flap currently the nerves. By keeping his tires? He does not believe his Team. Verstappen sticks behind him, Vettel and Bottas are on it – which is interesting now. Vettel is driving very calmly, to Position three. It is what is happening here?

55/78 Hamilton calls time and again that he new tires need. But his Team is trying to convince him that it was not necessary. Verstappen is still Second, but he gets a 5 seconds penalty and Vettel and Bottas to hang tightly on to him.

53/78 Between the Fourth, Bottas and the fifth, Gasly, are 17 seconds. Prior to that, the field is close together. Again, the Leading to to to lapped cars.

50/78 Hamilton reports on the radio, one of its front tyres since “dead”. But his team thinks he should remain so long out, how to do it. Rain, the world champion wants now desperate for rain.

48/78 , The Leading to to Stroll over, but Bottas manages to not initially and lose time.

46/78 Perez and Magnussen are fighting for 13th place. Perez says, the Dane had remained in the front, because he had abbreviated.

44/78 Hamilton continues to in a for him a leisurely pace. Apparently, he wants to end up with the tyre by driving. The question is: with Verstappen? Albon is driving the fastest lap

41/78 we go: The first drive on the currently last on: Kubica.

37/38 Not only Hamilton, also Verstappen could still be problems with the tire. Not much is currently happening, it is based on the strategy. Mercedes says over the radio that a second pit stop is planned. But also in the case of Verstappen, with hard tyres, presumably to come back in.

33/78 Hamilton reports on Funct “Graining”, i.e. grain size, which is to say: Overloading of the tires. Still Verstappen tried to overtake the Englishman. But he remains very close to it.

32/78 , The Top Ten currently:
1. Hamilton
2. Verstappen
3. Vettel
4. Bottas
5. Kwjat
6. Albon
7. Grosjean
8. Sainz
9. Gasley
10. Norris

30/28 On the radio gets Verstappen said he could just Hamilton to overtake and so a five-second lead going out, so that his 5-second penalty has no impact on the end. The Dutchman seems to take this Seriously.

28/78 The first rain stopper to fall to the Asphalt, but only very, very slightly. Vettel loses fall time vers.

24/78 , It could start to rain. Hamilton, Verstappen, Vettel and Bottas are close beianander.

22/78 PENALTY – Verstappen – after his contact with Bottas in the pits – with a 5-second penalty assigned. Either he needs to get into the boxes serving to stop or, if he comes in, then the five seconds will be added to his total race time.

21/78 Hamilton as a Leading runs on the medium tyre. The three drivers behind him have changed to hard, which can so up to the end of this drive. But what about Hamilton? The need to conserve his tyres and that is: drive Slowly.

18/78 Leclerc climb out of the car. An inglorious end for his home Grand Prix. A very hard decision to make. The car seems to be so damaged, that it probably makes no sense to continue.

17/78 UNDER INVESTIGATION for The incident between Bottas and Verstappen in the pits from lap 12 of the race direction investigated. Leclerc, once again, comes in the Box, but eh, no matter, he was the second-to-Last.

16/78 Not be weekend: Now depends on Ferrari driver in a traffic jam. Five cars are involved in a curve – partially transverse.

14/78 – END OF SAFETY CAR

13/78 Vettel is now in front of Bottas. How this happened is currently unclear. From the pit lane, the German went behind the Finns out.

12/78 – Verstappen is the winner of the pit stop: While he’s a super-fast down, it was a Mercedes with a double-stop busy. The Dutchman has made a place and is now Second. In the pit lane, the two had touched but lightly, nothing seems to serious to be happening.

11/78 SAFETY CAR – This is one of the leading drivers of course, not fallen, since you are a great distance out had. But Leclerc has left behind due to his puncture so much waste on the track, the Safety Car needs to get out. The use of the driver, of course, to change the tire. Pretty tight to go in the pit lane.

9/78 Leclerc tried in a curve to Hulkenberg over to come, touched him slightly, and is transverse. Continue directly on, but now has a flat tire, and holds the first of many. He tries to create in the Box. Meanwhile, the distance between Vettel rose to Position four and Ricciardo to five to over 25 seconds.

8/78 Good lap for Ferrari. Vettel drove the fastest lap and Leclerc manages after a long Effort to come to Grosjean over and is now Twelfth.

5/78 Bottas is just the fastest lap, before it was his Mercedes team-mate Hamilton. Same procedure as every race so far.

3/78 Hamilton. Bottas. Verstappen. Vettel. Ricciardo. Magnussen – so the is the previous order. Ferrari driver Leclerc, who had to start from 15, meanwhile, is already on P13.

1/78 Verstappen on the three tries to Bottas past to come, but can’t.

Ricciardo makes up two places and is now Fifth. Raikkonen loses three places. Accident-free run the first round.
