Brexit: the World’s winners and losers

Whether a hard-Brexit the UK wins or loses, has long been hotly contested. But also in the world, there are winners and losers, by a hard cut. An analysis with surprising results.

Direct link with Goods from China to the UK

Politicians in Brussels and other European capitals prior to the British that they were themselves the biggest victims of an exit from the European Union. A new study shows, however, that the EU would itself absorb large losses due to the Brexit. Very different than other regions of the world. According to a report by the United Nations conference on trade and development (Unctad).

Especially China and the US could benefit, according to the report greatly from that of a non-Brexit apply. In the case of an EU-UK agreement, the other European States and other trading partners of London would record outlet, however, a substantial export losses.

Unctad calculates that the UK stands for 3.5 percent of world trade. The country imported last year goods to the value of 680 billion dollars (604 billion Euro). More than half of the imports came from other EU countries.

Switzerland loses

In the case of a No-Deal-Brexit – a UK’s exit from the EU without a Transition period, the new agreement would, however, change the rules for the trading abruptly. European exports to great Britain would then go to 35 billion dollars, – stated in the Unctad study. Also, Turkey would lose and would have to reckon with a loss of 2.4 billion dollars. But the small country of Switzerland would still lose.

Other regions of the world could move into the resulting gap, China would be able to its exports to the UK of 10.2 billion dollars to increase the US exports of 5.3 billion dollars.

“The Brexit is not solely a regional matter,” said Pamela Coke-Hamilton of Unctad to the results of the study. Once London the other 27 EU countries, a Coke-Hamilton, “is the change in the ability of Non-EU countries, to deliver to the UK.” The Unctad report was published, while the EU and the UK struggle to find a possible displacement of the exit date for London. So an unregulated Brexit should be prevented.
