The American writer Richard Ford is a great storyteller – an art that is now appreciated in the spirit of the namesake of the price.
Richard Ford on Friday (28.09. 2018) from the Hand of the First Hamburg mayor Peter Tschentscher the Siegfried-Lenz prize. His first novel “A Piece of My Heart” (“A piece of my heart”) published by Ford in 1976. Known in 1944 in Jackson, Mississippi-born writer, mainly for his three novels about the sports reporter, and later real estate agent Frank Bascombe, (“The sports reporters”). Ford not only invented Bascombe, but “founded” is also the fictional small town of Haddam, New Jersey, from which it reflects as an accurate observer of US society. In 1996, he was awarded for his novel “independence day” for both the Pulitzer prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award. Richard Ford is considered to be one of the most important narrators of the USA, but he is modest: “There are many good writers in the world. And whenever you receive an award, you will also receive an award for their colleagues, so for those who are not here today. We write all the books in the service of the same goals.
