Heavy Rain maker Quantic Dream shows new engine

During the Game Developers Conference showed Quantic Dream see images of the new engine that the French developer in each other. With the clip, which Kara baptized, wants the studio to show how well the engine emotions in a image can bring.

‘Kara is not our new game, it is not the character, not the world and not the story’, did David Cage, the listeners of his lecture at the Game Developers Conference. Kara is the nickname of the robot that the protagonist plays in the trailer, which Cage showed. With that clip wants Cage to show what the new engine is capable of that Quantic Dream, the French studio of which he is director, has made. Quantic Dream has that engine, according to Cage ‘from scratch’. Cage wants a new engine because the studio “things to want to do that in Heavy Rain were not possible’. The director wants, especially the quality of the acting virtual characters improve.

The engine wants Cage to reach the actors that model the characters in a game, in one take captured. In Heavy Rain and in almost all other games is the voice of a character separately and later combined with the moving model of the same character. Cage wants to achieve that voice and movement in one shot are captured.

Quantic Dream is not the first studio that, with such a technique, experimenting. For L. A. Noire used Rockstar a technique in which the talking head of an actor by 32 cameras was set. Electronic Arts developed a similar technique for Need for Speed: The Run. Cage did not release which game the new technique will be used.
