Statistics from Google shows that currently less than a million devices based on Google TV in use. The Logitech Revue set top box and Sony Google TV products would be any good for the half of this number.
Google has officially no figures released about the number of active Google TV devices, but statistics from Google Market is, according to GigaOm to conclude that the number of devices the 1 million has not yet been exceeded.
The zoekbedrijf gives of each of the apps in Google Market coarse how many active users use them. Since some of the apps exclusively for Google TV, such as the electronic program guide ‘TV and Movies’, and an essential part of this part, is how many Google TV devices in use.
For the ‘TV and Movies’app is an installed base of 500,000 to 1 million users specified and that this limit is also equal to the maximum number of active Google TV devices. Also the other apps of Google TV will give the same numbers. The figures are substantiated by user numbers provided by Xyologic are maintained. Not included in the count are the Google TV devices that don’t have a version 2.0 of Google TV installed. That update added namely the Google Market-support.
GigaOm received from several app developers also data about the distribution of app revenue between Google TV devices from Sony, such as tvs, media players, and blu-ray player, and Logitech with its Revue set top box. From this it would appear that seventy percent of active Google TV devices consists of a Logitech set-top boxes.
Logitech lowered the price of its Revue set top box in 2011 to 249 usd 99 price as a result of disappointing sales figures. Logitech has publicly admitted that a major error was to the Revue. The manufacturer says no more interested in Google TV and the production of the Revue was discontinued.
Now have both Samsung as LG tvs based on Google TV announced. The two companies demonstrated these models at the CES 2012. Sony also has a new Google TV products announced, including a blu-ray player and a media player.
