KPN: maintenance compromised systems was ‘not optimal’

KPN acknowledges that the maintenance of its systems ‘not always optimal. Previously it turned out that KPN is not all the software was updated, so the hack on the company peuleschil would have been. The size of the hack is still not clear.

That writes the company in a statement. “Obviously, the developments in our sector, of course, instantly”, writes ceo of KPN, Joost Farwerck, in the statement. “Through research in the past few weeks we have seen that the maintenance of the internet-IT systems are not always optimal has been,” he continues.

Last week it was revealed that a group of hackers claimed that the hack on the company ‘trivially easy’ was because the servers outdated software turned. KPN promises now to be quicker to invest in the security of its systems, as well as in the modernisation.

Last week Wednesday, it was announced that KPN was affected by one or more hackers, who had access to private details of KPN customers. The precise extent of the hack is, however, still unclear. Friday wrote Tweakers.net that the hackers had penetrated to a core router of KPN, which the internet traffic of KPN customers could be intercepted. Also allowed the attackers to say that KPN customers shut down of the internet and digital telephony.

Also on Friday, were on the internet private data are published that have claimed that they are of KPN customers were coming. Then took a KPN as a precaution, e-mail service offline. In retrospect, however, showed that the data were generated from a different database, from the website Baby-Dump.nl. That was previously hacked, but the hack had nothing to do with the KPN hack.

That does not mean, however, that there is no private information of TELECOM customers are captured during the hack. KPN gave earlier to no evidence that that had happened, but didn’t want to guarantee that no private data are ontfutseld.
