SDG Systems builds extra rugged Ubuntu-based tablet

The American company SDG Systems has an extra rugged tablet to be released that runs on the Linux-distribution Ubuntu. The Trimble Yuma tablet is by its solid housing, in particular intended for military and industrial lwa le applications.

Until recently, resulted in SDG Systems Trimble Yuma only with Windows 7, but at the request of customers, there is now also a version released that runs on the Netbook Edition of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Against a small surcharge, promises the manufacturer, possibly also other Linux distributions to install. By the application of Linux may include other gis applications such as Grass and Quantum GIS to be rotated, useful especially for military use or industrial applications.

The reinforced tablet with a magnesium housing meets the rigorous MIL-STD-810F standard of the U.s. army, and is dust-, drop – and water-resistant. The Trimble Yumba is equipped with a 7″touchscreen that possibly by means of a stylus can be controlled.
