Nintendo will sell 15 million 3DS consoles

Nintendo has, since the introduction of the 3DS to 15 million copies of the 3d handheld sold. Nevertheless, it is heading the company on its worst financial lwa le year ever; the company threatens for the first time since the 1981 loss to make.

Of the 15 million sold 3DS consoles, there are 4.7 million sold in Japan, 5.5 million in the United States and 4.9 million in the rest of the world, including Europe. This is evident from Nintendo’s latest figures. There are 37.5 million 3DS games sold. With these figures, the 3DS predecessor, the Nintendo DS, still not caught up; there are since the introduction 151 million sold. However, there are already more 3DS consoles were sold than copies of the DSi XL, which is ‘only’ 12 million times over the counter gone.

The number of sales of the DS then runs back. Between april and december last year, there are 4.6 million copies sold, compared to 15.7 million in the same period a year earlier. Also, the sales of the Wii decline. Between april and december, there were 9 million copies sold, compared to 13.7 million in the period april-december 2010.

The declining sales mean that Nintendo for the first time since 1981 a jaarverlies seems to suffer. In 1981, the company for the first time, financial results are known. Although Nintendo in the third quarter of the profit made, expected this financial year to 65 billion yen loss to run. That has been converted to 638,3 million euro. Nintendo’s financial year ends in march.

That while Nintendo is expected that the turnover will increase to 660 billion yen, converted to eur 6.5 billion. That is an increase of just 35 percent. Nintendo blames the financial setback, in addition to declining sales, the strong appreciation of the Japanese yen. The profit in the third quarter fell against. This was almost two thirds less than a year earlier.
