Patent Canon shows 55-110mm f/2-zoom lens

Canon is working on a 55-110mm-zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/2, as deduced from a recently released patent application from the company. It’s going to in all probability to be a design for a EF-S-croplens.

Both the range as the light sensitivity of the lens design are very unique. The range is 2x quite small for a zoom lens, and holds the middle between that of a standard zoom and that of popular telezooms. The zoom range closes neatly to that of the 18-55mm-kitlenzen of the manufacturer. More striking still is the largest aperture: Canon has no zoom lenses in its range with a maximum aperture of f/2. The fastest zoom lenses of Canon, such as the 24-70mm and the 70-200mm, an aperture of f/2.8.

From the footage of the patent application, which is a Dutch national monument care by the Japanese blog Egami, suggests that the length of the lens, with the zoom in and out remains constant. Further, the design would, with 18 lens elements in 15 groups, are suitable for aps-c sensors. Therefore, it is likely that Canon have such a lens in its EF-S series would host.
