Imagination has gpus in PowerVR 6-series announced. The gpu’s are the successors of gpu’s as the SGX543, which include standing in the iPad 2, iPhone 4S and PlayStation Vita. The graphics performance would twintigmaal are so high.
The gpu’s are much more powerful, thanks to the new Rogue architecture, on which they are based, says Imagination, the maker of the image processors. The gpu’s are now in licensed and therefore can be expected within a short time, for the first time used in smartphones, tablets, and equipment for cars.
The PowerVR gpus are able to cope with OpenGL ES ‘Halti’, OpenGL 3.x/4.x, OpenCL 1.x and DirectX10. Also support for DirectX11 is installed. The PowerVR gpu’s have been announced in two variants: the dual-core G6200 and the stock G6400.
Chipmakers can the gpu’s to use for soc. That is, in the past few years, a lot has happened, including Apples A4 and A5 processors had a PowerVR gpu, as well as many processors from Samsung and Texas Instruments. Samsung used its Exynos 4210-soc and a Mali gpu from ARM themselves, while Qualcomm’s own Adreno gpu’s.
The gpu’s are licensed to eight manufacturers, four of which by Imagination are named: Renesas, MediaTek, ST-Ericsson and Texas Instruments. TI resulted, most recently, the soc for Google’s Android flagship Galaxy Nexus. ST-Ericsson is not yet a player of significance, but according to rumors processors make for Sony’s smartphonetak and Nokia.
Apple will also likely between the licensees sit, gambling AppleInsider. Apple is a shareholder of Imagination. The gpu could be used in new iPhones and iPads; this spring is the iPad 3 expected.
