The frequencies currently used for gsm networks this fall will be auctioned, according to the rules for the auction, which are published in the official Gazette. Providers must have a minimum of 80 million euros to pay for the frequencies.
KPN, Vodafone, T-Mobile and other companies that telco provider would be in the Netherlands may to 16th July, sign up to participate in the auction. Then, the auction in October via internet, as stated in the veilingregels, which Friday published.
The auction must be at least eur 80 million yield, as appears from the rules. The minimum bid for the most attractive set of frequencies is 35 million euro. The least appealing set of frequencies, only 585.000 euro to cost.
The frequencies should be auctioned, because the licences in February next year expiry. At that time the frequencies by the new provider are taken into use. If not, then there is a transitional period.
The auction should provide more competition on the telecoms market. By the design of the auction can KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile never all frequencies buy, so there is guaranteed to be new providers. Tele2 and UPC/Ziggo would like to frequencies buy, as was mentioned earlier.
The chance that a lot of the frequencies for gsm or 3g be used is large. The frequency bands that will be auctioned, are virtually nowhere in the world is used for 4g technology lte, which is the successor of 3g. Therefore, there is no lte hardware on the market that works on those frequencies. The bands are used for gsm and 3g: all now in the Netherlands, available phones and smartphones to work on those frequencies. Also is the 800MHz band will be auctioned: which is not used for gsm or 3g and will be so probably for 4g to be used. That band was previously used for analog tv.
