Intel starts delivery of new Atom processors for netbooks

Intel has started delivery of the new Cedar Trail-M Atom platform to manufacturers. The first netbooks powered by the new generation of Atom chips will launch in early 2012 in the stores expected.

Cedar Trail is the third generation of Atom processors and the successor to the Pine Trail-M platform, which in late 2009 appeared. The new Atoms according to Intel better performance but use less power. That is partly due to improvements in the design, but also by the move to a 32nm process.

The chips contain the new GMA3600 and GMA3650 gpu’s that are higher clocked than their predecessors of the Pine Trail-M platform. In addition, they are better able to deal with hd video. Play 1080p video files and blu-ray streams would be for the new Atoms are no more problems. To continue to support the new Atoms also Intel’s WiDi protocol for the wireless sending of video signals.

Intel will initially be two new cpus deliver: the N2600 and N2800, both dualcores with hyperthreading. That first running at 1.6 GHz, can handle ddr3-800 memory and has a tdp of 3.5 W which he, according to Intel, possibly passively cooled. The N2800 has by 1.86 GHz higher clock speed and can, in addition to the faster ddr3-1066-memory handle. This chip will have a tdp of 6.5 W. the Two processors are linked to the NM10 chipset which is also for current Atoms is used.

The Cedar Trail-M platform would actually be earlier this year all come true, but it was delayed. According to rumors, was caused by the drivers for the gpu’s, Intel would have problems with the successful completion of Microsoft’s WHQL testing process, which does not make the required certification could get.
