Company sues ex-employee to hijack Twitter followers

Noah Kravitz by his former employer Phonedog sued for ‘hijack’ of about 17,000 Twitter followers that he has collected during his four-year employment contract. Phonedog is claiming compensation from 370,000 dollars.

Noah Kravitz tweeted under the name @Phonedog_Noah for Phonedog, but changed after the termination of employment in October last year, the name of his Twitter account into @noahkravitz. He kept this the 17,000 Twitter followers that he, during the four years that he was employed at Phonedog, had gathered.

He was allowed to the account maintained on the condition that he occasionally tweets for Phonedog would post. Eight months later complained to the company Kravitz, however, because the list of Twitter followers was to be seen as a customer base, and therefore belonged to the company. A judgment in this case may have far-reaching consequences. It is expected that more companies business used Twitter accounts to claim it as their property.

Phonedog requires two and a half dollar per follower per month of Kravitz. That equates to a total of 370.000 dollars. The total number of followers of Kravitz now works for TechnoBuffalo, has now risen to more than 23.500.
