According to recent figures, Apple has in many European countries lost market share in the past quarter. Despite the introduction of the iPhone 4S would be the share on the smartphone market in several countries by 5 to 10 percentage points decrease.
According to Reuters, data from market researcher Kantar Worldpanel published, saw Apple in the twelve weeks up to the end of november, in France its share drop to 20 percent. In the same quarter last year, it was 29 percent. In Germany, the decline in the market share from 27 to 22 percent. In other major European countries such as Italy and Spain were similar to decreases noted. It is unknown what Kantar Worldpanel for the Netherlands and Belgium has established.
The decline in the market share of Apple would be mainly due to the worsening economic situation, combined with decreasing prices of smartphones made by competing companies, which are mainly Android. However, even the share of Apple in the United States and Great Britain have to rise. Thus, the market share in the US compared with last year, a whopping 11 percentage points to 36 percent.
A decline in market share in European countries comes as a surprise. Apple has released in the last quarter, its iPhone 4S, which according to the sales figures of its predecessor, the iPhone 4, more than exceeded. A quarter previously noted, Apple has yet to disappointing sales figures of the iPhone, which, as reason was suggested that many potential buyers have been waiting for the introduction of the iPhone 4S.
