Hitachi brings 10,000 rpm Ultrastar drives from

Hitachi has for the business market, an Ultrastar hard disk drive released, which are platters with ten thousand revolutions per minute, turning up late. With such speeds, it concerns, of course, a 2.5″hard drive with up to 900GB of storage capacity.

The Ultrastar C10K900 series is available in capacities of 300, 450, 600 and 900GB, and writes the data on three platters for the 900GB model, while the 300GB model of a single platter. The drives are equipped with 64MB cache and a sas interface with a bandwidth of 6Gb/s. The Ultrastars would speeds of 117 to 198MB/s for sequential transfer of data.

Not only the interface is an indication for business use; the drives are, according to Hitachi suitable for continuous use, and support the bde. The high speed rotation of the platters allows short acquisition times as possible, from 3.8 to a 4.2 millisecond, and the drives would be 17 to 18 percent faster than the competition. The absorbed power is 3 to 5.8 W, and the average noise level is 29dB. The drives are sampling to customers, but are only at the beginning of next year in mass production is taken.
