Apple wins the case against S3 Graphics about graphics patents

The U.s. International Trade Commission has ruled that Apple has no patents of S3 Graphics has been violated and the case closed. The ITC runs thus an earlier ruling of a judicial body back.

The ITC had the case since may last year in research, after S3 Graphics complaint about patentschending by Apple on the antitrustwaakhond registered. It would include the patents, with the numbers 6,658,146, 6,683,978, 6,775,417 and 7,043,087, all four relate to image compression.

An Administrative Law Judge had on July 1, 2011 as a result of this research found that the dxt-beeldcompressieformaat, as used in Apple computers, infringes claim 11 of the ‘978 patent and claims 4 and 16 of the ‘146 patent, and advised the watchdog to take action. The ITC has made this decision now, in addition to resigned themselves. The public authority did not specify a reason for the rejection of the claims of S3 Graphics.

The judgment of the ITC is, according to Foss Patents, a significant setback for HTC. That latter company in July this year announced the S3 Graphics to incorporate. HTC wanted with the acquisition likely to arm themselves against Apple, HTC in another patentzaak has sued for patentschending. The Administrative Law Judge ruled in July in that case that HTC two Apple patents had been infringed. Both HTC if S3 Graphics parried that with tegenaanklachten against Apple.
