Square Enix starts new studio in Montreal

The Japanese publisher Square Enix expands studio Eidos Montreal, with an additional 100 work stations. The editor begins in addition, a second studio under the name of Square Enix Montreal, in which a further 150 workers shelter will find.

With the extra hundred men that Square Enix is in the team of Eidos Montreal is going to add, may be the publisher in the studio a third team set up. Where that third team is going to work, is unknown. The two current teams of the studio working on the Deus Ex and Thief series. The studio is further enhanced with an own sound studio and a motion capturestudio. Eidos Montreal has been in existence since 2007 and delivered earlier this year Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which according to the publisher, more than 2 million copies sold.

The second branch in the Canadian city, Square Enix Montreal, will begin in 2012 and should offer work to one hundred and fifty men. The guidance comes in the hands of Lee Singleton, who is now in charge of Square Enix London Studios. Where the new studio will be working is still not entirely clear. It is a game in the Hitman series, but Square Enix leave in the middle or Hitman: Absolution or a new game. Hitman: Absolution has been for quite some time in development at the Danish IO Interactive and is on the market in 2012 is expected. The Danish studio, with the Hitman series has started, is also in the hands of Square Enix.

Square Enix makes with the expansion of the development capacity in Montreal use of the favourable tax regime that the Canadian government has created for game developers. For that reason, also have other publishers large plants in Canada. Notably Ubisoft and Electronic Arts have studios where hundreds of people work. Also THQ has a big studio in Canada.
