Dell and HP want to in new pc’s offer the possibility of secure boot that Windows 8 can be used, in the uefi to turn it off. This would still be possible to other operating systems to boot.
In the last couple of weeks in the opensourcewereld unrest arise about the possibility that computer, the secure boot option is going to enforce it. We feared that no opportunity would come to turn it off in the ‘bios replacement’ uefi. Microsoft would the secure boot option in Windows 8 want to use to make the operating system less vulnerable to malware attacks, but especially Linux users fear that this option is no longer another operating system can run. Among other things, the FSF and the Linux Foundation rebelled.
Dell nor HP would, however, have plans to secure boot to enforce among computer users, reports ZDnet. A spokesman for HP said that the company the choice of its customers respects and that it is therefore an option in the uefi will offer to have secure boot off. Also Dell will have a similar option.
In addition to HP and Dell would be also bios manufacturer AMI have to know that the customers will advise you to in the uefi an option to have secure boot off. This is the chance increased that all the major pc manufacturers the line of Dell and HP will follow suit and the potential secure boot problem will not occur. However, there are no initiatives known which offer the possibility of secure boot with other operating systems to use.
