As a place, a UNESCO world heritage site is

More than 1,000 cultural and natural monuments of the UNESCO world heritage list. It is the most important title, the monuments and the natural regions, often associated with rising tourist numbers and public funding. Areas will be awarded, among others, churches, national parks, rock paintings, burial sites, castles, whole towns, elevators, archaeological sites, Wadden seas, and vineyards. We will explain the processes behind this diverse list.

1. Who decides?
21 Committee members, the UNESCO world heritage Committee. The members come from 21 countries and represent all continents and cultures. They are elected for four years – finally, it should be rotated between the 163 States parties. In this panel, among other things, Vietnam, Finland, Algeria, Peru, and Germany also are represented.

2. Where is the meeting?
The venue rotates. In 2015, the members met in Bonn, this year in Istanbul. The international Committee come together not only for one, two scarce days of this Meeting – it advises ten days (10. to 20. July). 5. What places are on the Red list?
Here are all those world listed heritage site, at risk from the point of view of UNESCO strongly – whether by destruction, damage or Disappearance. Currently 48 places are on the Red list, threatened by war, vandalism, terrorism, natural disasters or urbanisation.
