Abbas Kiarostami died with 76 years
So far, only the Iranian news Agency IRNA reports the death of the filmmaker. Accordingly, Kiarostami had tried in France, to have his cancer treated.
The Iranian Director Abbas Kiarostami have lost the battle against cancer, reported IRNA. In the past week he had traveled from Tehran to Paris, to French Doctors. Kiarostami had already been subjected to the beginning of the year in Iran, a series of operations. For the funeral, he will be brought back to Iran.
The 1940 in Tehran-born Director was regarded as one of the most prominent filmmaker in his home. In the 60s he was one of the so-called New wave in Iranian cinema. After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Kiarostami remained in the country, but also abroad. In 1997, his Film “taste Of cherry” was awarded at the film festival in Cannes with the Golden palm.
Only a few days ago, Kiarostami had been together with hundreds of other film invited artists as a new member of the Oscar Academy. With the selection of their new members, the organization reacted in Hollywood to criticism of the lack of diversity in their ranks.
