According to previous information from the Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration has a plan that involves Ukraine's NATO membership being postponed for at least 20 years. In exchange, the West will continue to supply Ukraine with weapons and deploy European peacekeepers to monitor a ceasefire.

However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismisses the proposals, describing them as a way to “freeze the conflict along the current line of contact and transfer the responsibility for confronting Russia to Europe.” He expresses particularly strong opposition to the idea of deploying European peacekeepers in Ukraine. “We are absolutely not satisfied with the proposals being made on behalf of the president-elect's associates,” Lavrov says.According to previous media reports, Trump discussed these ideas during a meeting in Paris on December 7 with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron. Trump reportedly stressed that Europe must take greater responsibility to deter Russian aggression.

Lavrov points out that Moscow has not yet received any official signals from Washington and emphasizes that the Biden administration will still direct US foreign policy until Trump's inauguration on January 20.

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on December 26, saying that Russia aims to “end the conflict” by 2025, but stressed the need for successes on the front. At the same time, Lavrov rejected the possibility of a ceasefire, calling it “a dead end”.

Donald Trump has so far not officially presented any concrete measures to end the conflict, despite his previous promise to make peace “within 24 hours”.

Putin has expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue with Trump, but stands by Russia's demands: no territorial concessions and a definitive rejection of Ukraine's NATO membership.
