The day after the murder of 39-year-old Mikael Janicki in Skärholmen, the police secured chat conversations in which two of the suspected teenagers discussed the incident.

“They were so sorry about Shunon,” one of them writes in the conversation, which is written in immigrant Swedish. The other replies: “Anyone's dad. Brother.”

Both are suspected of aggravated protection of a criminal in connection with the murder of Mikael.

The conversation also included questions about how many shots were fired. The messages have since been deleted, but the police managed to secure the content during their investigation, writes Aftomnbladet.

The murder took place in April when Mikael and his son were cycling to Skärholmen swimming pool. After Mikael got into a verbal conflict with a gang of youths in a subway, he tried to disarm one of the youths who was pointing a gun at him. One of the shots that was fired hit Mikael in the head and killed him.

Five young immigrant men aged 17 and 18 are now facing charges. One of them, who was 17 years and 11 months old at the time of the crime, is suspected of murder and aggravated weapons offenses. The other four are suspected of aggravated protection of a criminal.

Mikael's family is devastated and hopes for severe punishment for those involved.

– For me, it is not a real sentence if they are released quickly. Even though the shooter was a minor when it happened, he has taken someone's life. I hope they get a high sentence. That they have to live in misery, just like we have since he died, she says, Mikael's sister Aneta tells Aftonbladet ahead of the indictment.

The trial begins on January 13.
