Young police officer shot dead in Norway

Foreign. A police officer in his 20s has died after a shooting in connection with an operation in Jæren in southern Norway during the night of Saturday. The suspected shooter also died.

The police stopped a suspicious car at half past one when the exchange of gunfire occurred.

– The perpetrator and two police officers were hit by gunfire, police officer Victor Fenne-Jensen told Norwegian VG.

The police officer who died was in his 20s, the police said in a statement. Both he and the perpetrator were taken to hospital during the night.

Both later died of their injuries.

It is unclear whether this is gang-related and any connection to Sweden has not yet emerged.
