Domestic. There is no “direct answer” to why large parts of humanity celebrate Christmas in connection with the turn of the year every year. This is what SVT's Christmas host Mark Levengood claims during this year's state Christmas broadcasts.

It was in connection with Sveriges Television's annual broadcast of “Duck Gossip” to the population that Mark Levengood tried to appeal with an inclusive explanation of what Christmas is, which would also suit a non-Christian audience.

– If you wonder what Christmas is about, there is no direct answer, Levengood claimed, among other things, in the presentation.

At the same time, the studio had done a clinical clean of angels, elves and trolls and replaced the traditional Christmas nativity scene and Advent candlestick with models of American cartoon characters, a bottle of alcohol, various plastic toys and the like.

SVT's move is now receiving criticism from several quarters.

“SVT's chosen Christmas host does not know why we celebrate Christmas. An impressive ignorance. He must really be curious about what Easter is about too?”, writes MP Lars Backman (M) on X.

Peter Romberg notes that a tax-financed, state-owned actor like SVT can go a long way when it comes to political correctness than what the business community can currently afford.

“SSAB's share price should at least be considered, it fell sharply when they didn't want us to say Merry Christmas. Similar messages from SVT, Christmas should be questioned and downgraded just like all Swedish traditions”.

Hurp Nelufo jokes that the holidays are primarily commercial holidays for trade.

“Christmas is the time for Christmas must. Easter is the time for Easter must. That's how it is”, he writes.

Mark Levengood, who calls himself “openly homosexual Catholic”, has not responded to criticism of his Christmas statements.
