The arrested doctor, named Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, drove into a crowd at a Christmas market on Saturday morning and mowed down people for a distance of over 400 meters before he was stopped.

More than two hundred people are now being treated for injuries and four people have died after the incident.

However, as recently as 2019, al-Abdulmohsen appeared in a report on the British state television giant BBC, where he talked about his fight for human rights in the Gulf states and how he started a website to help other Arabs from there get asylum in the EU.

He is described by the BBC as a “former Muslim” who is now passionate about human rights.

– 90 percent of those who contact me are women, says Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, among other things, in the report.
