Pål Jonson emphasizes that Sweden already has a certain presence in Ukraine through the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, which cooperates with the Ukrainian government to purchase military equipment.
– We also do not rule out the possibility of conducting training inside Ukraine, he tells the newspaper.
US President-elect Donald Trump has proposed that European soldiers be stationed in Ukraine to monitor a ceasefire. When asked if Sweden could participate in such an initiative, Jonson replies:
– I don't rule it out.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), however, is more reserved and emphasizes that Swedish soldiers will not be sent to Ukraine before peace is achieved.
– No, I find that very difficult to imagine. That issue requires an enormous amount of discussion and analysis before it can become relevant, Kristersson told TT on Thursday.
