– I really want to come to Sweden where I have lived for almost 20 years and I feel sad that I cannot be there with the children. But from my perspective, I have no choice, Mona tells Aftonbladet via a crackly Whatsapp line.

In Sweden, the children will be taken into care according to the LVU and Mona herself is suspected of having unlawfully taken them away from an investigation home.

She chose to flee home to the Arab world, more specifically to Lebanon, with the children because of this.

The situation in Lebanon is currently anything but safe. Israeli bombings have claimed thousands of lives. But despite the serious situation, Mona believes that she and the children are doing well. She describes how they move from place to place to avoid danger.

The LVU case goes back to a conflict with Mona's ex-husband, whom she accuses of violence and threats. She says that she fled to a sheltered accommodation from which she then fled, after which the authorities' assessment of her ability as a parent changed.

The social services also believe that Mona has difficulty setting boundaries for the children, lacks supervision and does not manage their routines. They considered that an LVU decision was necessary, which the administrative court approved.

Mona is worried that the children will not be together if they are taken into care in Sweden and says that she has lost trust in the Swedish authorities. She has also heard “really bad things” about placements with children who are exposed, start smoking and become addicted to drugs.

– Why should my children go through that? she tells Aftonbladet.

Mona admits that Sweden would be better for the children, but refuses to leave Lebanon as long as the LVU decision remains in effect.
