It is a personalized vaccine that will slow the growth of tumors and prevent the spread of cancer, according to the state-run Russian news agency TASS.

Andrej Kaprin, director general of the Russian Medical Research Center for Radiology, made the news during an interview on Russian radio.

However, the vaccine is not intended for the general public to prevent cancer, but is intended as a treatment for already sick patients.

Alexander Gintsburg, head of the prestigious Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, has previously explained that the vaccine works by mobilizing the patient's own immune system to attack cancer cells.

How effective the vaccine is and which forms of cancer it targets are not yet fully understood. However, cancer vaccines are not unique to Russia – several other countries, including the UK and the US, are working on similar solutions. Among other things, American researchers at the University of Florida are developing an mRNA vaccine for brain cancer.
