Lucia celebrations are closed in Enköping – after 80 years

Eriksen has been in the choir since 2016 and at that time the Lucia of the year was voted forward. Nowadays, they have invested in political correctness and diversity and therefore instead “raffle” this year's lucia.

Judging by the pictures in SVT, however, it has not had the desired effect, and now the tradition is being discontinued after the Enköpingsposten withdrew out of the collaboration.

The giant institution IOGT-NTO has been the main person for the Lucia celebration but, according to its own statement, is unable to continue it without the support of the newspaper. And the municipality, with a budget of SEK 5 million for culture and leisure, is not interested in saving the business.

– It would be nice if the tradition could be carried on, but by a civilian actor, says Jonas Nyström, head of administration for the Experience Administration in Enköping, to Aftonbladet.
