– Among the government's commitments is the Security Police's work to protect the democratic system , citizens' freedoms and rights as well as national security a special position. It is absolutely central to our country that this work works effectively, says Director of the National Audit Office Claudia Gardberg Morner.

The review particularly highlights the need for better long-term handling of personal data to connect threat actors, a method that is already used by others authorities such as the Swedish Armed Forces and the Norwegian Armed Forces Radio Institute. The security police should also get access to artificial intelligence to be able to process large amounts of data more efficiently, according to the National Audit Office.

Furthermore, the supervision of security-sensitive operations is criticized, which, according to the National Audit Office, currently mostly focuses on security protection plans and analyses, rather than concrete security measures .

– As it is now, supervision covers mostly the prerequisites for achieving safety such as security analysis and security protection plan, and not actual security protection measures, says Per Dackenberg, project manager for the review.

The recommendations to the government include requiring more information about the Security Police's activities. The authority, in turn, is asked to, among other things, improve its internal management, strengthen the supervision of security protection and to a greater extent provide information to the Government Office.

The report is brief due to confidentiality reasons, but the results have been communicated to both the Government Office and the Security Police .
