Swedes drink less alcohol – can't afford it

Consumer. Alcohol consumption in Sweden has fallen by approximately 10 percent over the past ten years, measured in pure alcohol. This is evident from new data from CAN (Central Association for Alcohol and Narcotics Information).

– It is above all the travel arrivals that have decreased during this period , while Systembolaget's share of consumption has increased, says Björn Trolldal who is a researcher and investigator at CAN.

During 2023, consumption fell by 2.7 percent.

– It depends both on the long-term trend and on the deteriorating economy during the year, says Björn Trolldal.
