Foreign. The Israeli military continues to advance in the crumbling Syria. Around the same time that al Qaeda-led rebels imposed a curfew in Damascus, Israel imposed its own curfew in its newly occupied territories, writes the New York Times.

Israel's Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi confirms that troops have “crossed” the demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan Heights and now entered Syria.
Avichay Adraee, a spokesperson for the Israeli military, has announced that a curfew has been imposed on five Syrian villages within the buffer zone, with residents being asked to stay indoors unless they want to be shot.
It is the first time since the 1973 war that Israel enters Syria with ground troops.
