Rape by the domestic service

  • Uppsala on the rape of Elsa: "We have been naive"
  • Elsa, 84: I was raped by the domestic service Arab

Organizer Maria Mattsson Mähl tells UNT that the demonstration will be about Elsa and “Siv's” stories about how they were raped by an Arab in the domestic service and about how the municipality tried to sweep the whole thing under the rug.

However, the plans have come up against strong political opposition from “several parties” in Uppsala. The politicians want to both change the content of the demonstration, move it away from City Hall and put it on a weekday afternoon instead of a weekend.

– When everyone is working! Who can come then? says Mattsson Mähl to UNT.

High-ranking politicians such as Agneta Gille (S) have also demanded that the organizers remove criticism of the municipality from the demonstration and replace it with a protest against the “gender order” and “men's violence against women” instead. However, Maria Mattsson Mähl doesn't think so.

– I can say that, that the gender order and some general mumbo jumbo the demonstration will not be about, she tells UNT.

In a statement to the same newspaper, Agneta Gille (S) defends her demand that the demonstration should be about the “gender power order”.

– We need to show the difficulties that exist in society that men take liberties. It feels gut-wrenching that the demonstration should be directed at the civil servants, she tells UNT.

During the mandate period 2022–2026, Uppsala Municipality is governed by a coalition consisting of the Social Democrats, the Left Party and the Environmental Party.

Together they hold these three parties 39 of the 81 mandates in the municipal council.
