Nike Örbrink, group leader of the Christian Democrats in Stockholm, describes the entire project around the building as “remarkable and naive” in a debate article in Expressen.
The mosque, which is planned to be over 2,000 square meters in size, has provoked strong reactions. According to Örbrink, the city's officials have not scrutinized the financing sufficiently, even though information indicates that external funds may have come from Turkish Islamists.“In addition to the fact that the city of Stockholm set aside millions to contribute to the mosque construction through the earthworks it undertook data indicates that the external funding can be traced to the Turkish Islamist movement Milli Görüs”, writes Örbrink.
Milli Görüs has been noticed for her jihadist-oriented anti-Semitism and is also considered to have anti-democratic values. The movement wants to replace Western social models with an Islamic social order.
That the city's officials did not investigate this more closely is, according to Örbrink, “blue-eyed”. She adds:
“Sweden's naivety and credulity have cost us dearly.”
The Social Democrats, led by financial councilor Karin Wanngård, defend the project and see no problems with foreign financing of mosques in Sweden.< /p>
This receives sharp criticism from Örbrink:
“It indicates a social democracy that has not learned from the failed integration policy they themselves were responsible for”, writes hon.
The Christian Democrats see a stop to construction as crucial to reducing the risk of extreme Islamist messages being established in Stockholm.
“For us Christian Democrats in Stockholm, however, the issue is crystal clear: Northern Europe's largest mosque with possible demands for an extreme interpretation of Islam is not what Skärholmen, or Stockholm, needs,” concludes Örbrink.
