SD now opens for landmines and cluster weapons

The parties want to see an investigation into leaving the Ottawa Treaty , an international agreement that prohibits the use of landmines.

The aim is that the third world war, if it reaches Swedish soil, can be fought with landmines from the belligerents the parties.

In addition to landmines, the parties are also open to reviewing the ban on cluster weapons.

The proposal is motivated by the fact that the security situation has changed and that Sweden needs to be prepared for new types of threats.

Aron Emilsson (SD) points out that countries like Russia and North Korea use warfare techniques that can put Sweden at a disadvantage.

– There is no peace that lasts forever. We know that Russia, North Korea and other antagonists wage war in completely different ways that create a disadvantage for us, he tells Ekot.

Mikael Oscarsson (KD) compares the reintroduction of landmines to having “home insurance” .

– It is discouraging, if Russia knows that we have these weapons, we may never have to use them, he tells Ekot.
