A video that quickly spread on social media shows Theilvig singing along to African-American artist Jay-Z's song “Empire State of Mind”, rapping about “niggas”.

Victoria Kjær Theilvig was crowned Miss Universum in Mexico City on November 16, and thus became the first Danish winner in the competition's history. She has attracted attention with her distinctive Nordic appearance at a time when such things are often considered something ugly and dangerous.

The victory is hailed by some as a step away from previous years' competitions that were characterized by political correctness, such as fat participants and pure transvestites.

However, the video has sparked strong reactions on social media, according to the Daily Mail. Some demand that the award to the Dane be withdrawn because she is “racist”.

Criticism is also directed at the CEO of the Miss Universe organization Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, who previously made controversial statements about diversity within the competition and defended the choice of a blonde and blue eyed winner. In a previously leaked video, she said that participants with so-called diverse backgrounds can indeed compete, but that they “can't win”.
