Domestic. Some moratorium for naturalized citizenships while waiting for stricter rules, by all accounts there won't be. Instead, the Tidö parties now state that they will make it more difficult for the distribution of new citizenships – without saying how.

In a debate article in Dagens Nyheter writes the parties that “measures” should be “taken” to limit the issuance of new citizenships:

“Before the new requirements for citizenship are in place, there is reason to act against citizenship being issued according to the current legislation. Citizenship that is granted without the applicant responding to the expanded requirements constitutes a vulnerability for Sweden's security. To the extent possible, therefore measures are taken to prevent more Swedish citizenships being issued, until the new legislation comes into force.”

It is not clear what the “measures” are specifically about to reduce the new citizenships.

The long and almost substanceless article is locked and is therefore only available to paying subscribers of the left-wing paper.

Viktor Barth-Kron, political commentator on Expressen, now states that the SD seems to have settled for “finely chopped word salad on DN Debatt” – while the Liberals, for their part, got through their important exception to the duty of information for all relevant professional groups.

Sweden Democrats party leader Jimmie Åkesson recently wrote in Aftonbladet Debatt that he wanted to pause all new citizenships until the tightened rules are in place. But such a moratorium does not seem to come to fruition.
