Domestic. There was no moratorium on new citizenships. Instead, the Tidö parties will now try to “delay” applications for new citizenship in a bureaucratic way, reports TV4 Nyheterna.

The Tidö government's new law on citizenship is expected to come into force effective only in the 2026 election year, after a multi-year investigation.
Some moratorium on new citizenships pending the new legislation however, it did not happen. By all accounts, the Sweden Democrats have not even tried to bring about such a thing despite pressure from, among others, party profiler Kent Ekeroth for a long time. This has led to up to 150,000 new citizenships being handed out during the current mandate period.
After the criticism of this, TV4 Nyheterna now reports that the Tidö parties have an alternative solution.
In order to limit the number of approved citizen applications in the meantime, the government plans to use bureaucratic methods, including by requiring more extensive security checks via the Migration Agency.
The Green Party's migration policy spokesperson Annika Hirvonen criticizes the proposal:
– That one should try to prevent the Migration Agency from making decisions in accordance with the Administration Act's six-month deadline. I think that sounds very problematic. The government should not fiddle with its management of authorities, she tells TV4.
