– Historically, many young people today do not have a place to call their own home, while the economic crisis has hit those with small margins hardest. The housing situation of young people is not only a problem for each individual whose freedom is severely limited by not being able to move away from home. It is also a failure for Sweden and risks leading to missed work and training opportunities, says Marcus Svanberg, CEO of Länsförsäkringar Fastighetsförmedling.

Tidaholm municipality in Västra Götaland ranks highest on the list of municipalities where it is best for young people to live in, thus taking over first place from Dals-Ed. In the recurring index Sweden's best municipality for young people to live in, Länsförsäkringar Fastighetsförmedling has weighed youth unemployment, housing prices, overcrowding and access to housing for young people.

– Eight out of ten young adults live in a municipality that has a deficit of housing for young people. Rents and apartment prices have for a long time risen significantly more than young people's incomes, while too few small and cheap homes have been built, says Marcus Svanberg in a press release.

The municipality of Berg in Jämtland ranks, just like in 2023, last in Sweden's best municipality for young people to live in, with a combination of high condominium prices, a high proportion of overcrowded housing and a deficit of housing for young people. All of the three metropolitan municipalities rank low. The city of Malmö ends up in second last place, the city of Stockholm in 13th place from the end and the City of Gothenburg in 25th last place.

Torsby is the municipality that has climbed the most since the last ranking, up a whopping 141 places.
