Cuf demands Demirok's resignation

It is blowing up a storm within the Center Party. The youth association Cuf has now come out with an open demand for party leader Muharrem Demirok's resignation, citing a lack of leadership.

The criticism comes after several days of intense speculation about internal contradictions within the party.

– For some time we have seen a lack of leadership from him, says Cuf's chairman Caroline von Seth in an interview with SVT's “Aktuellt”.

– This does not hold, she states and points to Demirok's inability to acknowledge criticism as an example of his weak leadership.

A large part of the crisis is about the government issue. According to information, during a party board meeting, Muharrem Demirok should have argued that the Center Party should support Magdalena Andersson as candidate for prime minister. This must have met with opposition from several parts of the party board. Demirok himself has denied that any decision has been made.

– We have not made any such decisions. Neither last Friday nor earlier than that, he said Aktuellt i Wednesday.

During Thursday evening, the chairman of the Center Party's district board was called to an extraordinary meeting to discuss the internal situation.
