The Ukrainian reports of a Russian intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) attack on Dnipro on Thursday have created panic, as these strategic weapons are designed to deliver weapons of mass destruction over long distances distance.

The horror headlines came after Russia greatly liberalized its nuclear weapons doctrine in response to Joe Biden allowing Ukraine to fire US robots deep into Russia.

But now Reuters reports, citing senior Western sources, that the attack was in fact carried out by a medium-range robot.

A US official bases the information on preliminary analyzes that indicate that Russia fired a ballistic shorter-range robot.

The exact type of medium-range robot and its payload have not been confirmed, but the damage in Dnipro is extensive. Ukrainian authorities are reporting civilian deaths and destroyed infrastructure, while a technical investigation is underway to determine the robot's specific capabilities.

The Western assessment is preliminary and may therefore be revised as more information becomes available.
