The arrest warrant concerns suspected war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the attacks on October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, and Israel's military response in Gaza.

According to the ICC, both Netanyahu and Gallant are responsible for war crimes by having used starvation as a weapon and crimes against humanity through murder, persecution and other “inhuman acts”.

Israel rejects the court's jurisdiction and denies war crimes in Gaza.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for Hamas leader Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri. According to the Israelis, Al-Masri was killed in an airstrike earlier this year, which Hamas has not confirmed.
