Domestic. After hard and prolonged pressure from the voters and alternative media, SD leader Jimmie Åkesson is now open to pausing the mass distribution of new citizenships to immigrants for the time being.

The The SD-backed government has so far issued over 130,000 new citizenships – a majority of which went to immigrants from the Middle East and Africa. At the same time, new residence permits have also continued to be handed out at the same rate as under the previous left-wing government, all while the protracted investigations continue.
On Wednesday, the SD profile Kent Ekeroth came out and demanded a moratorium on naturalized citizenships, so that no more new citizenships are awarded until the new rules come into effect.
And today Jimmie Åkesson publishes a debate article in Aftonbladet with the headline ” Faced with a total freeze on new citizenships”.
“We have long proposed introducing a moratorium on citizenships in our negotiations with the government”, claims The SD leader now.
In the debate article, Åkesson states that it is the Christian Democrats who have now “turned around” on the issue of reducing the distribution of citizenship, and that the two parties should therefore be able to “come to an agreement”.
“It is positive that they are now considering such a change, given that so far we have met with solid opposition every time we raise the issue,” he writes.
KD leader Ebba Busch has been reported to KU for her statement that she wants to share issued fewer Swedish passports, but she has not expressed any public support for a full moratorium.
If the Migration Agency pauses the processing of citizenship cases altogether, it would be possible to “prevent the issuance of tens of thousands of new citizenships”, according to Åkesson.
