The action follows a series of threats directed at against the businessman Joachim Kuylenstierna, who in the past year has been subjected to several incidents – including an explosion on Sunday.
The act in question occurred at an address where Johan Kuylenstierna, who is director general of the research council Formas, lives. The police suspect that the perpetrators chose the location solely because of the surname, as there is no connection between Joachim and Johan Kuylenstierna.
The police have decided to call everyone with the surname Kuylenstierna in Sweden and the Nordics to inform them of the potential the risk. According to the police script that Aftonbladet has seen, the following is said in the conversations:
– We have become aware of a threat that targets people with your surname. It is about a hundred people in Sweden and the Nordic countries, but there is no concrete threat to you in particular.
At the same time, the police emphasize that the last name is the only common denominator and that there is no cause for concern.
The threats against Joachim Kuylenstierna are believed to have escalated after a hand grenade was found at an address in the Old Town earlier this autumn. The police now suspect that the perpetrators are threatening or attacking people who they wrongly think are related to him.
– They are sick in the head so just the last name makes them think they are related, regardless of whether they are or not, says an anonymous police source to Aftonbladet.
After the explosion on Sunday, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and is now in custody. The case is led by prosecutor Anna Stråth, who explained in a statement that she cannot provide further information at the moment.
There are over 200 people with the name Kuylenstierna in Sweden.
