“Nytorgsmannen” arrested for new sexual assault

Domestic. The so-called Nytorgsmannen, who was previously convicted of several serious sexual crimes, has been arrested again, now suspected of a new assault in Hörby.

The arrest took place on the night of Wednesday, according to information from Sydsvenskan.

The Nytorg man, who was sentenced as late as February 2022 to five years in prison for, among other things, rape and sexual abuse, was released on parole earlier this year despite assessments of a high risk of recidivism.

SVT has also spoken to one of the man's former victims, who expresses his concern and lack of surprise at the event.

– I knew this would happen. He is a hopeless case, she says.

SVT reporter Jimmy Kirvesmäki, who produced a documentary about the man, also comments on the news:

– It was clear from the Correctional Service that they believed that the risk of recidivism was high when he was released.
