Republicans have won control of the US House of Representatives after the party secured 218 seats in the national election, reports Yahoo News.

Re-elections took place for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, and the balance of power in the lower house of Congress was at stake. Before the election, the Republicans had a narrow majority with 220 seats, while the Democrats had 212. Three seats were empty before the election last week.

It was already clear that the Republicans will also get a majority in the Senate. By winning the House of Representatives, the party now gains control of both Congress and the White House, paving the way for the party to pursue its political agenda with less opposition.
