– There was a relatively large public interest at the beginning, when many Ukrainian refugees also arrived. We simply see that audience interest has waned, says Josef El Mahdi, responsible for developing the news offering at Sveriges Radio, to Ekot.

The initiative was launched in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when the need for news on Ukrainian language was considered great. But now, when interest has waned, SR has decided not to extend the project employment for the editorial staff.

– Of course, this decision was unexpected and it upset us, says Karl Volkohon, producer at the editorial office, to Ekot.
