Popular toy gets sales ban

Miniverse – Make it mini is popular and available in many stores. According to Frida Ramström, inspector at the Chemicals Inspectorate, contact with the non-hardened liquid that the toy contains means a risk of irritation:

– If you get the liquid on your skin, there is a risk of skin irritation. There is also a risk that those who are sensitive may develop a skin allergy, says Frida Ramström, inspector at the Chemicals Inspectorate.

For those who have bought a toy, Frida Ramström gives the following advice:

– If the liquid has solidified, the toy is safe to use, otherwise it should be thrown away or returned to the store where it was purchased.

Several incidents have been reported in the EU and the US where children have suffered skin irritation from the toy. In June this year, the product was recalled in the USA and Canada.

The Chemicals Inspectorate assesses that Miniverse – Make it mini does not meet the safety requirements according to the Toy Safety Act. The toy contains substances such as hydroxyethyl methacrylate or isobornyl acrylate, which can cause irritation to the skin, eyes or respiratory tract. The decision to recall the product has been appealed by the Swedish distributor.
