The recordings with Jeffrey Epstein – who “committed suicide” in a cell in New York in 2019 and is believed to have blackmailed powerful men with the help of girls and young women – is presented before the election by the author Michael Wolff.
These are interviews that were conducted in connection with Wolff writing his book Fire and Fury about Donald Trump.
In the recordings, made in August 2017, Epstein claims that Trump likes to “fuck his best friends' wives” and that Trump slept with his current wife Melania for the first time aboard Epstein's plane, the so-called Lolita Express.
Jeffrey Epstein talks about Trump's character and describes him as both charming and cruel. According to Epstein, Trump lacks real friends and is “a horrible human being.” Epstein describes a technique in which Trump routinely asks his friends about their sex lives and then uses their answers to seduce their partners, which Epstein illustrates with specific examples.
Epstein also claims to know other details about Donald Trump, including alleged cosmetic surgery to combat hair loss. When asked to explain how he knows all this, he briefly replies that he was Trump's best friend for a decade.
The Trump campaign has reacted strongly to the information, calling it “smear” and “electioneering”. They claim that Trump severed all ties with Epstein when his crimes became known and that Epstein was banned from Trump's Florida residence Mar-a-Lago. Trump has repeatedly denied knowledge of Epstein's crimes.
Michael Wolff says he has up to 100 hours of tapes with Epstein, and says he chose to release those parts after new ones emerged sexual harassment allegations against Trump.
Jeffrey Epstein had 14 different phone numbers for Trump properties, and in a 2002 interview, Trump described Epstein as a “wonderful guy.” He noted, however, that Epstein's taste in women was on the “younger” side.
